Terms of use
What you may do with the data and the service, and what we promise in return.
Maintainers: this page states the intended position in plain language. Have it reviewed by the university's legal office before launch, and replace the bracketed placeholders. It is not yet a reviewed legal text.
Using the data
Data is licensed per record. The licence appears on every record page and in every machine-readable representation; the default for new deposits is CC BY 4.0. Some records carry different terms because their depositors were required to use them — the record's own statement governs.
Under CC BY 4.0 you may copy, redistribute, adapt and build upon the data, including commercially, provided you give appropriate credit. The citation block on each record page is the credit we ask for. See Identifiers and citation.
Using the service
Search, record pages, downloads and the API's read endpoints are open and need no account. Please:
- Do not scrape at a rate that degrades the service for others. If you need bulk data, ask — a dataset release is easier for you and cheaper for us than crawling.
- Identify your client honestly in its user agent, so that we can contact you before blocking anything.
- Do not use the service to distribute material you do not have the right to distribute.
We may rate-limit or block clients that make the service unusable for others.
Depositing data
By depositing, you confirm that you have the right to publish the material and to license it under the licence you select, and that doing so does not breach an agreement you are bound by.
Depositors retain their rights. Deposited records may be corrected by curators for accuracy and consistency, and may be included in versioned dataset releases under their stated licences.
Accuracy and liability
The data is provided as it is, with no warranty. Computed and hypothetical structures are hypotheses with numbers attached, not statements about synthesisable materials. Check anything you are going to act on.
To the extent the law permits, [ORGANISATION] accepts no liability for loss arising from use of this service or its data.
Availability
This is a research resource maintained by a small team. There is no uptime guarantee. Record URIs are intended to resolve indefinitely, and we treat a broken cited URI as a bug.
Changes
We will announce material changes to these terms on the site before they take
effect. Deprecated API surfaces are announced with a sunset date and answer
Deprecation and Sunset headers well ahead of removal.
